Scandal At The Secret Service, Teen Drivers and More

Click HERE To Listen: 04-18-12 Paul Samakow

The Secret Service agents in Columbia, detailed in advance of President Obama’s visit there, were caught with their pants down.  Eleven of them hired prostitutes.  This is all of the news now, and Paul’s take is as many have voiced… a very big no – no.  Their actions compromised the integrity of the office of the President.  No United States “crime” was committed here, nor any in Columbia, where prostitution is legal.  The predicted result for these agents?  They’ll be fired.

The next subject discussed today was the Roger Clemens perjury trial, Part 2.  Paul offered some observations about the strengths and weaknesses both sides now have in this “do-over”, and Paul predicted that even if Roger is convicted of lying to Congress, he’ll not see any jail time.

Paul next talked about Connecticut becoming the 5th state in the last 5 years to abolish the death penalty.  Acknowledging he is in favor of the death penalty for certain heinous crimes, Paul expressed concern about the implementation of the sentence and the possibility of mistakes.  That lead to the discussion of Gary Allen, who murdered the wife of his two children in Oklahoma in 1986.  Mr. Allen was convicted and sentenced to death.  Appeals led to the Supreme Court of the United States, just last week, staying the execution.  The mitigating circumstances here were that Mr. Allen had a history of mental illness, including schizophrenia and dementia, and, the Parole Board voted 4-1 in favor of the stay.  OK’s governor nonetheless wanted the execution carried out.

Paul’s tip of the day involved teenage drivers.  Car accidents are the leading cause of fatal head trauma in teenagers.  States with strict licensing laws experience lower rates of these devastating injuries.  Paul offered a free copy of his “New Driver Contract” to any that ask.

Listen to the whole segment and if you have a teenager, get Paul’s contract before you hand over the keys.

DUI Laws, Voter ID & Who Keeps The Ring?

Click HERE to Listen: Paul Samakow on 03-14-12

Today’s time with Paul was a bit more informational than news analysis, as Andy started off by asking about Virginia’s new DUI penalty.  Paul explained that previously, Virginia required the ignition interlock device for 2nd time alcohol offenders and for those, even the first time, that had a blood alcohol content measured at or above .15.  Now, Virginia requires the device’s installation for ALL DUI offenders, regardless of the BAC content or number of offense.  Paul noted “drinkers beware” and commented he was in favor of this new law.  Andy wholeheartedly agreed!

Next, Paul told us about the Texas “photo ID” law that didn’t pass for voters at polling places.  The Justice Department was convincing that the law unconstitutionally impacted Hispanics.  Both Andy and Paul agreed that certainly, in today’s world, it is unusual not to have a photo ID.  But, not having one shouldn’t deprive you of your right to vote.

The third discussion involved the unfortunate situation about who keeps the wedding or engagement ring if the marriage is called off.  Listen for Paul’s commentary and analysis.

Finally, Paul’s tip involved employees (that’s most of us), what the law is, and what your rights are concerning post-hiring drug testing.  Do you have to submit to a drug test as a condition of continued employment?

Listen to learn the answer!

Murray Trial, Lululemon, Baby Lisa, The ending Stages of your Personal Injury Case…

Press the Play button  on the cassette player below to hear this week’s show. You can pause, rewind and fast forward to listen to your favorite parts.

The Conrad Murray trial reached day 20 on Friday and the battle of the experts was definitely on … sadly, however, we got a very private look into what was happening in the last few months of Michael Jackson’s life and the significant role played by drugs, their use and their misuse. Moving from West Coast to East, the tranquil setting of a yoga store became a setting for violence and a “I hope this is not a copy cat,” case of a missing baby in Missouri with mom both withholding information and changing her story.

In Virginia, a lawyer in trouble for blog posts while a Florida judge Blocks a law requiring drug tests for welfare recipients.  Obama move to both keep and improve on Student Loan promises made in his state of the union address and in our visit with Paul at his law office today…we talk over the ending stages of your Personal Injury case.

The Inquest in the passing  of singer Amy Whinehouse determines the cause of her death and the Lohan Twins…that would be Lindsay and her Dad … I say twins as they are both knuckleheads and I really hope they get the help they need.  The Casey Anthony Jurors names are released and Bath Salts, of all things, end up on a DEA list of restricted substances due to abuse as a dangerous drug.

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Capital Punishment, 9/11 & Tony Bennett …

Press the Play button  on the cassette player below to hear this week’s show. You can pause, rewind and fast forward to listen to your favorite parts.

Today we have a show that  offers our listeners the important opportunity to be heard on issues that go to the very core of life here in America.  First up … Don’t Ask Don’t Tell or, as I learned this week,  Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, don’t seek, don’t flaunt … came to a close – some say at an appropriate time – Paul will offer his thoughts, we would like to hear yours.  Capital Punishment has been long debated in our country and in recent weeks, we have brought you many legal headline stories…today international opinion has placed a glaring spotlight on the Death Penalty in the United States … one question stands out … are we guilty of cruel and unusual punishment?

With the anniversary of 9/11 just passed, an American Icon, singer Tony Bennett speaks his truth on a national radio show and is vilified … since when, one might ask, is the opinion of any one man something that should be withheld … Social Media has become, for many of us, a joyful opportunity to express our views ….In Mexico this week, two bloggers died for sharing their opinion of cartel drug activity on the internet … we will be looking at what precipitated these killings and asking once again for your thoughts.

In our visit to the Samakow Law offices, Paul says that when it comes to Personal Injury cases, Justice is Rare and further … an illusion. We have all heard about wrongful death law suits…today you will hear about a Wrongful Birth suit and we will all have to dig down deep for answers to some tough questions.

Arnold Schwarzenegger slated to write a book, Britney Spears accused of Child Abuse and follow up on stories we have been following.  This show is about Real Questions and Real Answers and you, as always, are the most important voice.  Call with your comments as well as your questions about all things legal…
